The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the government body that is in charge of regulating and overseeing gambling in the Canadian province, has announced that it has imposed a penalty of 100,000 dollars on Apollo Entertainment, one of the licensed online casino operators in the territory.
The regulator found that Apollo Entertainment has violated the province’s Standards for Internet Gaming, which were set up before the Ontario market opened for private operators in April 2022.
Among the breaches found by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, the operator was found to have failed to conduct required interventions in the case of players that might have been experiencing gambling related harms. The main example of such a breach was the case of a player which lost no less than 2 million dollars within four months without any intervention from the operator.
The local regulator also found that Apollo Entertainment failed to implement an efficient voluntary self-exclusion programme and also did not provide players with sufficient means to set financial and time-based limits while gambling.
Moreover, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario explained that Apollo Entertainment also failed to make sure its employees understood the importance of responsible gambling procedures, including assisting players who might have been experiencing gambling harm.
