According to Cyber Crime SP Rahul Gupta, this recent crackdown forms part of a broader effort that has blocked 157 websites and social media accounts since November 2024. These actions are conducted under legal provisions, including Section 168 of the BNSS, Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, and Rule 3(1)(d) of the IT Rules.

Gupta emphasized the importance of such measures, stating, “To combat illegal online gambling activities, the Cyber Crime Police Station, Ribandar, Goa, has taken stringent measures by blocking 61 gambling websites.” The officer highlighted that these steps aim to protect vulnerable individuals from falling victim to fraudulent gambling platforms.

Investigations Underway and Public Cooperation

The Cyber Crime Police have initiated investigations into the blocked websites to identify those responsible for their operation. Authorities have also called on the public to report any illegal online gambling activities, stressing the importance of cooperation in curbing the proliferation of fraudulent platforms.

This recent operation follows a similar initiative where the Cyber Crime Cell blocked 96 websites and social media accounts under the same legal framework. With the cumulative total now reaching 157 blocked platforms, authorities are doubling down on efforts to combat cyber fraud.

SP Gupta reiterated the significance of public vigilance, advising citizens to verify the legitimacy of online casinos before engaging in gambling activities. He further encouraged individuals to report unauthorized gambling websites to ensure swift action against violators.
