Though it’s far more common to find Live Roulette playing with a single-zero wheel, a couple of developers also provide the American game variant mainly for the benefit of US players. What exactly is the difference and why should you choose one or the other?

Live American Roulette Mechanism and Payouts
Once the game is launched, it’s easy to identify which variant you’re about to play. Unlike its European cousin, American Roulette uses a wheel with 38 pockets – 36 red or black ones marked with numbers 1-36 and 2 green ones with 0 and 00.
Gameplay is identical: the dealer spins the wheel (or it’s spun automatically) and launches the ball. Having bounced back and forth, the latter will eventually stop at one of the 38 pockets and thus decide on the winning number and potentially also color plus a few other paying outcomes.
You’re probably aware of a general advice to always choose European over American Roulette due to lower house edge. By adding one more green pocket, house edge has been increased from acceptable 2.70% to high 5.26% while potential wins remain identical; for example, odds of winning a Straight Up bet go from 1 in 37 to 1 in 38 but you’re still getting paid 35:1.
That’s why most players tend to stay clear of the American variant and those that do choose it over European Roulette do so out of ignorance or because they’re feeling patriotic.
Having said that, there is one particular Live American Roulette game you may want to wager on and we’ll talk about it a later on.
The two game variants share most bet types but each also features a few unique wagers. In American Roulette one can place a Straight Up bet on 00 as well as a Basket bet which is a five-number wager on 0,00, 1, 2 and 3, paying 6:1 (though we wouldn’t recommend the latter as it makes house edge go up to 7.89%).
European and French Roulette, on the other hand, feature Call bets (Voisins du Zero, Orphelins and Tiers du Cylindre) which combine numbers according to their positions on the wheel rather than the table.
American Roulette – Key Characteristics
- Two green pockets – 0 and 00
- RTP of 94.74%
- Standard Inside and Outside bets + Basket bet
Live American Roulette Providers
Only two developers offer Live American game variant along with multiple European tables but, ironically, only one is making it available to the American gaming community.
Evolution’s Live American Roulette, off limits to residents of the US, enables players to adjust video quality, manipulate sound settings and wager in several different ways – using the traditional betting table or a racetrack, applying previously saved favorite bets, or placing special bets such as Finale En Plein, Finale A Cheval and Complete bets.
The game supports the usual Inside and Outside wagers as well as the Five bet (Basket) and helps you decide where to place your chips by displaying detailed statistics of the previous 500 rounds.
Visionary iGaming (which is happy to let Americans play) provides two Live American Roulette games – a standard one plus a unique variant with boosted wins. Enhanced Payout American Roulette has a house edge of only 2.42% and pays 36.08x for a winning Straight bet , 17.54x for Split, 11.36x for Street, 8.27x for Corner bet, 2.09x for Dozen and Column bets, and 1.06x for High/Low, Red/Black and Even/Odd.
ViG’s live dealer products offer fewer in-game options than those provided by Evolution Gaming but they incorporate a tipping functionality to make the experience as close as possible to playing at a land-based casino.
Where to Play Live American Roulette
MYB Casino is a US-friendly, Curacao-licensed gaming site established in 2017. It’s very active as far as promotions go, accepts cryptocurrencies as well as Fiat money, and makes its support team available at all times.
The operator chose to work with a small number of developers and among them Visionary iGaming which has provided Live European and American Roulette, Live Blackjack, Live Baccarat and Live Super 6. Roulette fans will be able to benefit from enhanced payouts while wagering $0.50-$2,500 via desktops and mobile devices.
Bovada, established in 2011 and targeting primarily US players, welcomes new members with several generous bonuses, accepts Bitcoin while also supporting traditional payment methods, and offers direct personal assistance 24/7. Bovada’s Live Casino is home to ViG’s Live Roulette, Blackjack and Baccarat, including American Roulette with limits of $1-$3,000. You should know that this is a standard game rather than the one offering enhanced payouts.
Launched in 2013, Slots.lv has quickly become one of the favored online gaming destination for US casino fans. It didn’t use to have a Live Casino but now provides 20 tables powered by Visionary iGaming and among them two playing European and American Roulette. Both offer players to choose between limits of $1-$300, $5-$1,500 and $10-$3,000. American variant features standard payouts rather than enhanced ones. New members are able to collect up to $5,000 in welcome bonuses while Bitcoin depositors get to boost their balance by as much as $7,500.
Ignition Casino is one of the newer sites catering to the US gaming community and benefiting from the fact that’s it’s operated by highly experienced Lynton Limited.
The website provides access to 19 ViG products, including European and American Roulette with identical limits as at Slots.lv. Same as its sibling, Ignition only offers the American variant with regular payouts and a house edge of 5.26%. It does, however, treat registered members to a 100% up to $1,000 Casino Welcome Bonus and a number of ongoing specials, accepts Bitcoin and provides a 24/7 support service.
If you like the advantages of ViG’s Live Enhanced Payout American Roulette, you can play the game at 5Dimes Casino or VietBet.
5Dimes Casino may not be the most visually exciting website but it’s been around since 1998 which means the team must be doing something right.
VietBet is a one-stop shop operational since 2002. There are two Live Casinos to pick from – Vegas Live Dealer with tables playing standard and Early Payout Live Blackjack, Live Baccarat, Single Zero and Enhanced Payout American Roulette, and Lucky Live Dealer which focuses primarily on Asian games such as Baccarat, Fantan, Dragon Tiger, Sic Bo and Belangkai.
